Abseiling Experience in the Peak District

Abseiling in the Peak District is a fantastic standalone activity for those wanting a short, sharp outdoor adventure. Our sessions are designed to be accessible, supportive and fun, with something to suit a wide range of ages and confidence levels.

We run our Peak District abseiling sessions as relaxed 2-hour experiences, usually in the morning or afternoon with meeting times at 9.30am or 1pm. Pricing is £39pp for viaduct abseiling at Millers Dale and £50pp for rock face abseiling. Our online booking requires a minimum of 2 participants, however we can also add individuals onto existing courses. Groups of 4 or more receive a 10% discount, which makes this ideal for families, friends and larger group bookings.

We mainly run sessions at Millers Dale near Tideswell, where there is good car parking and on-site toilet facilities. In addition, a café usually operates nearby at weekends from around 10am.

We also run rock abseiling sessions at Surprise View in the Hope Valley. This is a pay and display car park location with no toilet or café facilities on site. However, an ice cream van sometimes operates depending on the day and season.

If you are looking for a private abseiling session, group booking or tailored experience, please get in touch so we can discuss your requirements and create a suitable session.

Viaduct Abseiling at Millers Dale

Our most popular Peak District abseiling experience takes place at the iconic Millers Dale Viaduct, set in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside near Tideswell.

This is our most adventurous abseiling option. It delivers a true free-hanging descent directly from the viaduct. Once you step over the edge, you commit fully into the abseil as the valley opens beneath you. This creates a strong sense of exposure and excitement.

One of the key advantages of the viaduct is efficiency. After each abseil, participants walk back up the steps to the top of the structure. This allows multiple descents within your 2-hour session.

As a result, you gain more time on the rope, more confidence, and more opportunity to refine your technique. Therefore, the viaduct works especially well for beginners, families, groups and charity participants.

Rock Face Abseiling in the Peak District

For a more traditional outdoor experience, we also offer abseiling from natural rock faces across the Peak District.

These sessions take place on natural crags surrounded by the beauty of the Peak District National Park, adding an extra sense of adventure and immersion in the landscape.

The main difference compared to the viaduct is that it can take a little longer to return to the top for another descent, which gives a more natural, mountain-style feel to the experience.

Rock abseiling is a great choice for groups wanting a more traditional outdoor challenge, and private bookings are available on request.

Charity Abseil Preparation

f you are considering a charity abseil, our sessions often provide excellent preparation. Many people use the Millers Dale Viaduct as a stepping stone before taking part in larger organised charity abseil events.

It helps you experience height, build confidence and become familiar with the abseiling process in a controlled and supportive environment. Therefore, it is ideal before taking on a fundraising challenge.

FAQ's

Is abseiling suitable for beginners? Yes. Our abseiling experiences are fully guided and suitable for complete beginners.

Can I do multiple abseils at Millers Dale? Yes - participants walk back up the steps after each descent, allowing multiple abseils within the session. Most people complete at least 3 descents, and often more depending on time and group pace.

Is rock abseiling easier than the viaduct? Not necessarily. They are different styles of experience. The viaduct is more exposed and adventurous as it is a free-hanging abseil, while rock abseiling has a more natural, traditional feel.

Is abseiling safe? Yes. All sessions are run by experienced instructors using professional safety systems and equipment.

Can wheelchair users take part? We can facilitate abseiling experiences for wheelchair users at Millers Dale Viaduct. This must be arranged in advance and priced individually due to additional staffing and planning requirements. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss suitability and requirements.

Can children take part? Yes. We regularly work with families and youth groups. Minimum ages vary depending on the venue, with Millers Dale suitable from 3+ and rock abseils from 7+. If you have children younger than 7 wanting to complete a rock abseil get in touch as we can assess this on a person by person basis.

Do I need to be fit? No specific fitness level is required. You just need to be comfortable with a short walk and following instructor guidance. At Millers Dale, access is along a flat path with steps back to the top for repeat abseils. Rock abseils may involve uneven ground or light scrambling to return to the top, so please contact us before booking if you’d like to discuss suitability.
