Stream Scrambling in Derbyshire - Activities in The Peak District
Stream Scrambling in Derbyshire is also known as Ghyll scrambling and is as close as we get to Gorge walking. The reason we call it this is because our streams aren’t as big as the gorges in the Lake District. Despite this we always have a great day out with this activity. However for your safety we only run it from May until September.
Our stream scrambling days are about having fun whilst getting wet ascending one of the Peak Districts best stream-ways. They involve climbing small waterfalls, swimming across pools, building human dams, going down water slides, jumping into a plunge pool and having your photo taken underneath a waterfall. Our instructors are in the water with you supporting you, challenging you and spotting you were necessary to look after your safety. It is a great group activity to create a day to remember.
Ghyll or stream scrambling works really well in the Peak District with Stag and Hen parties as well as extended families or youth groups. If the weather is right then this is an excellent way to spend a morning with your friends. We recommend doing this activity between May and September to get the best from the weather and the right water levels. This activity takes place off the Snake pass so you can be sure of some stunning views whilst participating and even driving there.
What will you need?
We provide you with a shortie wetsuit, helmet and gloves. You will need clothing underneath this which could be swimwear or sports wear as well as a pair of trainers. You also need a towel and a full change of clothes for this activity. Also bring some cash to get a coffee or Hot Chocolate to help you warm up afterwards.
Many groups like to make a full day of activities so we can also take you abseiling afterwards if you wanted to fill the day with outdoor activities. This would involve abseiling off one of the local viaducts along the Monsal trail.
